My name is Hannah. I am dance artist who makes performances with and for young people.
I did both my undergraduate training and Masters at Laban, London. Gaining a 1st Class BA (Hons) in Dance Theatre in 2007 and an MA in Dance Performance as company member of Transitions Dance Company in 2008. From 2008-11 I worked as a freelance dancer based in London.
Most of my career I have worked as a performer and I am particularly inspired when collaborating with artists from different disciplines namely music, film and design. Some artists I have had the pleasure to work with include; Maria Jerez, Caitlin Mulgrew, Valerie Reid, Christine Devaney, Ian Spink, Miguel Pereira, Rosemary Butcher and Valerie Preston-Dunlop.
In 2012 I went to Espacio LEM in Buenos Aires, Argentina with the aim to develop my choreographic practice. This was a pivotal moment for me in transitioning into starting to make my own work. As a choreographer I draw upon my experience and interest in collaborating across different art forms and hope to make works that engages, includes and inspires audiences of all ages. Creating work for theatres, as well as outside in places and spaces where you might not expect to find dance. After 3 months training at LEM, I returned back to my home town of Edinburgh where I am currently based.
I am passionate about teaching and have taught dance to all ages and abilities on various projects. I am particularly interested in working with young people, with a focus on working within vulnerable communities. Some companies, institutions and charities I have worked with for include; Lyra Theatre’s Young Company Scottish Ensemble, Dance Base, North Edinburgh Arts, Chisenhale Dance Space, Creative Identities, Edinburgh International Festival (Deborah Colker & LA Dance Project), The Haven Project, Transitions Dance Company, Laban and many schools and colleges across the UK and Europe.
