The Curriculum for Excellence

The performing arts can help meet the aspirations of the new Curriculum for Excellence on a number of levels. The benefits to children include:

  • development of creativity and critical thinking skills
  • enhanced emotional and imaginative development
  • enhanced ability to form judgments
  • opportunities to express ideas, values and feelings
  • greater knowledge and understanding of social and cultural issues
  • an increase in drama skills and knowledge of theatre
  • an increase in self confidence and self esteem

Imaginate is creating a new learning resource for teachers to support them further in linking performing arts opportunities with the Curriculum for Excellence. The resource will be launched in September 2010. Please email learning@imaginate.org.uk to note your interest in receiving further information about the resource.
