Imaginate is committed to being an LGBTQIA+ inclusive organisation.
As an international organisation, we recognise the power, voice and opportunity we have to support those who are most in need in our society. As an organisation focused on producing work for children and young people, we understand the power of our influence. From the work we produce, to the people we engage with, to the way in which we work, we have a privileged position to raise the voice of the LGBTQIA+ community.
We want to make sure that everyone we work with feels safe, respected and able to be their authentic selves. This includes children and young people, artists, freelancers, colleagues at other organisations as well as our own staff team. We have a zero tolerance approach to any kind of discrimination on the basis of sexuality and/or gender identity, including but not limited to homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia.
Since July 2023, we have achieved the Silver LGBT Charter with LGBT Youth Scotland. Our letter of congratulations stated that:
“Reflective, artistic and collaborative are key themes which are found throughout Imaginate’s LGBT Charter Portfolio. The work that has been executed has been done with the LGBTQ+ community at its core, notably the panel at the most recent Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, highlighting the genuine platforming and celebration of queer expression in the creative arts. Both internal and external communications on the Charter have been strong throughout and leave the staff many avenues to continue working on to continue their LGBTQ+ equalities work. The work provided meets all criteria at silver and as such, Imaginate have been awarded a pass. Congratulations on earning your Charter award!”
