Bishop May Down (they/them) is an Arizona-raised, Glasgow-based theatre maker and facilitator.

They work with young people aged birth to 18 years (and beyond) in community and socially-engaged contexts, with a rights-based approach informed by their work as a childcare and early years practitioner. Bishop is passionate about co-creating with young people of all ages on socially and politically engaged performance work, challenging structures of power and authority and placing children at the centre.

Bishop graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) in Contemporary Performance Practice from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where they premiered their graduate show Conversations with Eve. This launched the development of their post-human performance practice and collaboration with technology, with an interest in the materiality, personality, and creative agency of software and hardware systems. They use this collaborative working method to speculate on new modes of performance from a queer and post-human perspective.

Bishop has made work with the support of Tramway, Imaginate, and Scottish Youth Theatre, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and has facilitated with Imaginate, Platform, Lyra, Starcatchers, Tortoise in a Nutshell and Tenterhooks.
