Dorine Mugisha is an international performer, instructor and founder of Body Movement.me where she runs retreats, workshops and bespoke events. She is interested in seeing more diversity in dance, especially the representation of plus size bodies and people of colour. Of Tanzanian origins, born and raised in France, living in the UK, she is an avid traveller and speaks 4 languages; these inspirations and cultures are reflected in her work. She grew up training in various street dance styles but gravitated towards Whacking/Punking. She teaches workshops in this style, organising events to showcase it's essence and has competed in over 20 countries including in Europe and Americas. For over a year, she has been performing her solo piece, 'Asili' (which means Origins in Swahili) where she explores her multi cultural upbringing, navigating and adapting to people, places, institutions. A journey of self discovery and acceptance. She has performed this piece at: Breakin Convention in London, We Rise Festival in Aberdeen, All Europe Waacking Festival in Paris, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Dorine is a versatile artist with a degree in Law & Sociology, 10 years of experience as a Programme Manager working in the youth sector and has an IAFPD Primary Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Coaching. She aims to combine her passion for movement and travelling to exchange, tell stories, especially from those who are under represented.
