Jim is a performer, director and movement director originally from Detroit and now based in Glasgow. In 2018, Jim co-founded dance-theatre company Shotput with Lucy Ireland, and their inaugural show, Ferguson and Barton, recently opened in Glasgow.
In between, he worked for several theatre companies in Chicago and Brussels, where he trained at École Lassaâd. As performer: The Skating Rink (Garsington, dir. Stewart Laing), The Playboy of the Western World (Michigan Classical Repertory), and all of Fratellanza’s work to date. As director: Lucia di Lammermoor (Fulham Opera and Grimeborn Festival at the Arcola), Opera Highlights (Scottish Opera), and his own adaptation of War and Peace (Viaduct Theatre, Chicago). As movement director: Lost at Sea and Aladdin (Perth Theatre), Elixir of Love (Scottish Opera), and The Enchanted Bullets (Blackheath Halls Community Opera).
Jim works across theatre, dance and opera, with ensembles of professionals and non-professionals. He strives to make work that is joyful but skeptical of contemporary ideas of progress.
