Satu is a visual artist from Helsinki. Tani is fascinated by combining performance elements with spatial works and old craft methods with a twist. In recent years, her works have often been created in collaboration with Maima Tani, Satu's sister. Concepts, ideas and writing are essential parts of Satu’s artistic processes. However, Tani also wants to leave room for surprises and does not know in advance exactly where the process will lead. She is currently exploring communication, interaction and different ways of being in the world through performance art, short films and comics. She is particularly interested in pre-linguistic, non-verbal interactions between people and between humans and other species of living things.
Satu Tani graduated as a visual artist from Saimaa University of Applied Sciences in 2011, majoring in media and video art. She has also completed a master's degree in fine arts at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences (now LAB). In addition to her own artistic work, she acts as a mentor for artists with special needs. In the fall of 2025, Tani began her doctoral research on the social agency, future thinking and ecosocial paradigm shift of neurominority artists in the NACER team of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lapland.
