Imaginate is thrilled to partner with Platform, Easterhouse (Glasgow) to present an evening of early-stage scratch performances for young audiences.
The event is an excellent opportunity to see exciting and diverse early-stage dance and theatre pieces made for children and young people and provide constructive feedback to the artists on their performance ideas. There will be time for networking afterwards.
Please note the event is aimed at artists, freelancers and industry peers and not for children or the general public.
Tickets are £5 and should be booked through Platform' box office. This includes entry to the event and refreshments afterwards.
Programme
Launchpad artist Andrea Cabrera Luna - “Chairs”
A playful and physically charged exploration of what happens when the everyday objects around us transform into people, obstacles, and imagined landscapes. Through absurdity and poetic invention, the piece invites audiences into a world where objects come alive, reconfiguring our sense of presence, absence, play, and possibility. Chairs seeks to make the invisible visible.
Sarah Miele, Fergus Dunnet, and Jo Rush - “Flocked”
Using puppetry and object manipulation to follow the story of a lost pigeon discovering the harsh reality of pigeon life in the big city. It is a story that will ignite empathy and transport children into the pigeons’ world, introducing themes of social justice in an imaginative way through a meaningful and delightful piece of theatre.
Kirsty McDuff and Andy Cannon - “Squeak - the Cat’s Away – it’s Time to Play!”
Two curious mice. One big, empty house. And a radio that’s been left on… “Squeak” is a joyful, imaginative journey in a house full of possibilities - guided and underscored by the whims of a radio soundtrack - pop songs, adverts, a concerto, sudden weather reports & traffic updates - each bring a new moment of fun, discovery and playful chaos!
Julia Chan and Robyn Gray - “The Umbrella”
This is a light-hearted and humorous story about two characters responding to the change in weather and circumstances. Looking specifically at narratives of friendship, and acceptance.
Florence Logan and Hope Kennedy - “Toast with Lots of Butter”
This is about food. It’s about cheese strings, candy pop rings, dinner ladies, and a trip to the Big Supermarket. By working with expansive forms of storytelling, we explore how a big plate of spaghetti bolognese, the smell of a curry simmering on the hob, and the feeling of toast crumbs in our covers can bring us back home, back to the dinner table, back in front of the telly, right back next to Granny.
This event will be BSL interpreted by Karen Forbes and Catherine King.
