Teachers' Theatre Club - online discussion
Friday 12 June
2 - 3.30pm

Teachers' Theatre Club (TTC) is a 3-year project run in partnership between Imaginate and Edinburgh Festival Fringe that encourages teachers in Edinburgh and the Lothians to see more live performance, develop their critical thinking skills, become more confident in discussing this with their students and in turn, inspire their classes to do the same.

Since Covid-19, and the cancellation of the 2020 Edinburgh International Children's Festival and Edinburgh Fringe, TTC have been meeting up on Zoom every second Monday.  We watch the same performance online and then come together to talk about it in faciliated break out rooms. This has been really interesting so we would like to open up a session for others to join us.

For this open session, we will watch the first six short performances of Scenes for Survival, a National Theatre of Scotland programme of 40+ digital artworks they have commissioned in response to Covid-19.

  • Isolation from novelist Jenni Fagan, performed by Kate Dickie, and directed by Debbie Hannan.
  • A Mug's Game, an extract from the play Fibres by Frances Poet, performed by original star Jonathan Watson and directed by Louise Shephard.
  • Clearing from writer Morna Pearson, performed by Ashleigh More and directed by Cameron Mowat.
  • Alone written and performed by Janey Godley, directed by Caitlin Skinner.
  • The Present written by Stef Smith, starring Moyo Akandé and directed by Katherine Nesbitt.
  • John Rebus: The Lockdown Blues from Ian Rankin, starring Brian Cox as the irascible detective inspector and directed by Cora Bissett.

Watch all six here:

You can find out more about each piece here.

What do you need to take part:

  • a computer or phone and access to wifi
  • access to zoom (this is free to use, you can find out more here)
  • time to watch the 6 Scenes for Survival performances before the session on 12 June, each piece is around 5 minutes
  • availability to join us from 2 - 3.30pm on Friday 12 June

Teachers' Theatre Club is part of Imaginate's Inspiring Schools programme and is supported by the PLACE programme, funded by the Scottish Government, the City of Edinburgh Council and the Edinburgh Festivals, and supported and administered by Creative Scotland.
