Theatre in Schools Scotland (TISS) is looking for touring productions for the school years 2021-23.
Theatre in Schools Scotland is produced by the National Theatre of Scotland and Imaginate to support and develop the touring of high quality theatre and dance performances to Scotland’s schools and nurseries. TISS presents an annual programme of productions for children and young people created by Scottish performing companies and artists. Productions are designed especially for school halls and classrooms and can travel anywhere in Scotland.
Productions must be suitable for performance in school halls, or classrooms and cover an age band within Nursery – S1. We are particularly interested in productions suitable for P2-4. Only artists and companies based in Scotland will be considered for this programme.
The programme will have two strands:
1) Associated Productions: These are theatre or dance productions that are already fully funded to tour in Scotland and wish to additionally tour into schools with the support of TISS promotion, administration, liaison and booking. This may be a school specific tour or an extension of a venue tour for young audiences where adaptions can be made to suit school buildings. They would be part of the TISS programme and receive a standard fee per day for a maximum of three weeks (tour extension by agreement). Touring within school years October 2021 to April 2022 and August 2022 to April 2023.
2) Fully Funded Production Remounts: Each year we aim to remount two productions to tour to schools nationally. TISS covers the cost of up to two weeks of rehearsal and all touring costs, and tours will be across Scotland for 8-10 weeks. This would not include redevelopment time*. These productions would usually be performed to audiences of up to 120 in a school hall. We are now looking for productions to tour in the school year August 2022 to April 2023.
The programme will be selected by a panel made up of representatives from Imaginate and National Theatre of Scotland’s artistic and programming team, with invited independent artists. The strands will be considered together with the aim of creating a rounded programme across the full age range with a variety in choices for schools, both in scale and themes.
We are committed to working with as varied a group of artists and companies as possible across the programme of work, with a particular focus on underrepresented voices including disabled artists and artists of colour.
*In the long-term, we are also interested in supporting artists and companies to re-develop existing work with TISS for the school environment. We are also looking to develop a programme for ASN schools. Please contact us at any time to discuss these options.
