We are looking for applications to curate an evening of high quality, inspiring works in progress by artists interested in creating theatre and dance for children and young people. Our Ideas Exchange event is an excellent opportunity to try out new ideas and receive peer feedback from industry colleagues including artists, programmers and producers.
We are delighted to be partnering with Traverse Theatre for Ideas Exchange 2020, splitting performances between Traverse 1 & 2. As part of Ideas Exchange there will be four works in progress presented, two in each space. Each company will have a short technical rehearsal, the afternoon of the performance, with the performances running from 18.00-20.00. Technical facilities can be found here.
We welcome applications from artists with all levels of experience in making work for young audiences including those who haven't explored creating for this audience before. We are looking for ideas with potential (for any age from babies to late teens), for artists who take this audience seriously and to curate a programme that offers a range of style, form, artform and who the work is for. We are especially keen to hear from voices currently underrepresented in the young audiences sector.
The criteria the panel will assess applications with are: the potential of the idea, how the opportunity would impact the development of the work and the artists involved, and the work is addressing underrepresented voices and/or themes in the sector.
Ideas Exchange will be curated by a panel:
David Wood - Freelance artist and theatre maker
Sunniva Ramsay - Creative Producer, Traverse Theatre
Fiona Ferguson - Creative Development Director, Imaginate
Helen McIntosh - Assistant Producer, Imaginate
Ideas Exchange is an industry event which means there won’t be children in the audience, you should think about how your idea will work in this context and what you would want to learn or gain from the performance. It is an event for works in progress and is not suitable for finished pieces or workshops, ideally you will have already done some early development or a scratch/sharing with this idea.
If you would like to discuss your idea further you can email Fiona Ferguson, Creative Development Director. We would like all of our events and opportunities to be accessible to everyone regardless of any physical, economic or any other barriers. We have a budget to support this so contact us if you would to talk about that.
