I am excited to be working with Imaginate, the wonderful other artists and staff and children in the schools who are all involved in this years School’s Immerse residency project. It feels an important time to be able to use our artistic skills to reach out to schools and offer some creativity, playfulness and explore new ways of working, learning and thinking together.

Brian worked with two P4 classes and their teachers at Forthview Primary School between February - April 2020. They researched explorers and what pupils can discover in the natural world. The classes looked at why people explore and what they hoped to find. Together they created their own masks, goggles and outfits from recycled materials and considered how they see the world and how they can imagine seeing the world.

The project encouraged the young people to think about the many different kids of connections that bring people together. Moving from the digital screen through the natural world and into imaginative worlds, together they explored how different connections weave in and out of our lives. By using visual art, creative movement, film making and storytelling, the children, teachers and artists went on a creative journey together.

The residency brought a much needed opportunity to learn about new ways of working, through playful and creative activities, learning and sharing ideas together.
