Immerse Year 3

Immerse was an ambitious three-year project working with primary schools in Edinburgh. Some participating schools are based in areas of greater need and high index of social deprivation, and three are ASN schools.

In Year 3 (2021/2022), all schools received some of the following elements:

In school performance: Mixed Up by Katy Wilson and Starcatchers

An exciting hybrid online and outdoor performance which explores the mixed up feeling children have been having since the onset of Covid through hip-hop dance, beatboxing and painting.  Presented as a partnership between Edinburgh International Festival, Starcatchers and Imaginate.

In school performance: Buff and Sheen

A comical roaming dance performance about two imaginative window cleaners with absurdist and slapstick humour that allows children to join in with dance moves and laugh at the general shenanigans from the comfort and safety of the classroom, through a closed window. This show and workshop have been designed with children with additional support needs in mind and will be adapted to the needs of each audience.

Interactive in-school projects: The Vanishing Land by Punchdrunk

This exciting teacher-led project will engage pupils in P6 and P7 with local geography and the environment, while encouraging collaboration, imagination and empathy as well as increasing standards in oracy and writing.

Artists in Residence

Schools received an artist residency between January - April 2022 with a Lead Artist and Trainee Artist in each school, an opportunity to explore important local and global themes through making performances together as a collaboration between children and artists.

Children's Festival Visit

In May 2022, classes attended a show at the Edinburgh International Children's Festival and followed up their visit with a workshop exploring ways to talk about performances.

Summer project

A four-day artist intervention project, with 2-3 artists in each school leading various creative explorations with children.
