Launchpad will give me the chance to develop my artistic voice in performance for young audiences, exploring themes like anticipation, failure, and persistence—experiences that weighed on me as a young person—in a fun and experimental environment. Collaborating with an amazing team and experimenting with new ways to engage young audiences is exactly what I’ve been seeking. I’m excited to grow my practice, develop ambitious ideas, and draw from Imaginate’s value-led expertise.

Andrea will use her Launchpad time to explore a new, playful, absurd, and physically demanding devised interdisciplinary performance idea for children. Using chairs as a central element, she will experiment with transformation; chairs becoming people, obstacles, and objects, to create shifting configurations and new contexts. Through looping, repetition, accumulation, and endurance, the piece will explore the comedy and struggle of performance, blending delightful ridiculousness with genuine exertion.

At its core, this project is about play, anticipation, failure, and persistence; ideas that deeply resonate with young audiences. The performance idea will invite children to recognise patterns, anticipate changes, and engage with the evolving playfulness of the piece.

Andrea is keen to develop this interdisciplinary idea and forge new artistic collaborations as she works to introduce herself as a lead artist in performance for young audiences.

As well as developing this new show idea, Andrea will attend the Children’s Festival in May and EXPORT/IMPORT, a biennial festival for young audiences in Brussels, in November.
