I am feeling a mixture of nervousness and excitement to meet the children and the teacher, but also can’t wait to see what we will make in the process.

Lead Artist: Lucas Chih-Peng Kao

Taking into consideration their experience of home schooling and the stress of the pandemic, Lucas wanted to introduce the idea of sketchbook as a personal, creative space at home for the children at St.Ninian's. Each pupil was given a notepad to use as their own space for creative experimentation.

Throughout the residency, Lucas wanted to let the children realise that each of them are unique, special and creative. Through a mixture of drawing and writing activities they explored their identity including the origin of their name, making of new names, family tree, real trees, which lead to roots, family roots, personal roots, soil and nutrients in a meandering and explorative way. Lucas focused on stimulating their imagination and unlocking their creativity at this special age.

Lucas now hopes to make a version of “Questionus” - an audio visual installation with the children each contributing a question they want to ask the audience or the world.
