Teachers' Theatre Club (TTC) is a partnership between Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society and Imaginate which is open to teachers in Edinburgh and the Lothians working in council-run Primary, Secondary and ASN schools.
After an open call out, 10 teachers were chosed for TTC Year 2:
- Leah Anderson - Woodlands School
- Alison Carson - Hermitage Park Primary School
- Jack Cavers - St Crispin's School
- Caroline Jess - Towerbank Primary School
- Cat Howson - Rowanfield School
- Shiraz Newall-Watson - South Morningside Primary School
- Amy Norwood - Fox Covert Primary School
- Eleanor Shedden - Tynecastle High School
- Emily Smith - Bonaly Primary School
Due to the pandemic, in 2020/21 our Teachers Theatre Club went digital. We were delighted to be able to bring our Year 1 and Year 2 cohorts together to experience and discuss online performances. A mixture of live, pre-recorded and digital shorts were viewed by the group including:
- Bubble by Kieran Hurley. Produced by Theatre Uncut
- Invisible by Kabinet K
- Don't we deserve grand human projects that give us meaning? By Robert&Frank Frank&Robert. Produced by CAMPO
- Lament for Sheku Bayoh by Hannah Lavery. Co-produced by Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, National Theatre of Scotland and Edinburgh International Festival
In late June, Imaginate hosted an open session for our Year 1 and Year 2 Teachers Theatre Club cohorts, along with teachers and educators from across Scotland to come together and respond to a selection of the National Theatre Scotland’s Scenes for Survival series of digital shorts which were created in response to COVID-19.
Once teachers were able to attend performances, they attended:
- The Enemy by Kieran Hurley. Produced by National Theatre of Scotland.
And at the 2021 Edinburgh Festival Fringe:
- Sex Education Xplorers (S.E.X.) by Mamoru Iriguchi. Produced by Independent Arts Projects. This performance was followed by a talk by Mamoru Iriguchi and the team behind the show.
- Treasure Island by Quantum Theatre
TTC Year 2 also joined TTC Year 3 for their visits to the Edinburgh International Children's Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. After the performances, they also engaged in post-show discussions with the creative teams involved in the productions. You can read about the joint programme with TTC 3 here.
