Jack Hunter will be working on his show One of Two in November 2022. The development will include working on the script with a dramaturg, working in the room with Birds of Paradise's artistic director Robert Softley Gale, as well as with an audio describer, a designer and a stage manager to adapt the play for a younger audience (10-13 yrs).
One of Two is a one-person comedy drama that tells my story of growing up as one of two twins with Cerebral Palsy. The play focuses on my journey of self-discovery; whilst celebrating the shared bond I have with my twin sister Bec. The piece is thematically rich as it examines the complexities of our relationship, and therefore the intersectionality of disability. The play examines the contrasting societal barriers, that we have individually faced, throughout our lives. This unique story aims to tackle prevalent misconceptions about disability, that exist within today’s hegemonic non-disabled society. In particular, the show focuses on challenging ableist attitudes within mainstream education and conveying how the system fails young disabled people.
Trapped in the bathroom with an evil tattie, Jack wrestles with the reality of living alone. Jack Hunter's inspiring* debut comedy is full of heart and a half-empty bag of Weetos. A true tale of twins growing up with cerebral palsy. Jump aboard the "strugglebus" with Jack as he steers through the intersectionality of disability, whilst honking at societal attitudes and Eddie Redmayne's career choices
*Inspiration not guaranteed.
The development of One of Two is supported by Birds of Paradise and National Theatre of Scotland. It is funded through the PLaCE programme, funded by the Scottish Government, (through Creative Scotland), the City of Edinburgh Council and the Edinburgh Festivals.
