Curriculum for Excellence Resources

The show invites pupils to look differently at the world around them, connecting art, science and imagination in a unique sensory experience that celebrates pattern, perception, and the beauty of movement.

  • Expressive Arts: developing movement, rhythm and visual interpretation, helping pupils explore how dance and pattern express ideas and emotions (EXA 1-10a, EXA 1-12a, EXA 2-10a, EXA 2-12a)
  • Science: linking to learning about light, reflection and symmetry, encouraging pupils to observe and discuss how mirrors and shapes interact (SCN 1-11a, SCN 2-11a)
  • Mathematics: exploring pattern, shape and symmetry, connecting the choreography’s geometric rhythms to mathematical thinking (MTH 1-19a, MTH 2-19a)
  • Health and Wellbeing: supporting spatial awareness, coordination and mindful observation, as pupils experience how bodies move and relate in space (HWB 1-21a, HWB 2-21a)

Mirkids is a feast for the eyes and the imagination. The audience lies on the stage around a cylindrical structure, gazing at a suspended mirror and glimpsing dancers reflected on its surface. Here an arm, there a leg, disconnected and multiplied. In sync, with a geometric rhythm, body parts create mesmerising shapes like the vibrant patterns of a kaleidoscope: symmetrical, fluid, enigmatic and forever-changing.

This stunning dance production is a fascinating visual spectacle that fires our imagination and invites us to marvel at what (literally) unfolds before us.
