  • Lesley Howard c. David Thomas Adam

2020 Graduate: Scottish School of Contemporary Dance BA (Hons) - Glasgow Based Freelance Dance Artist

As an individual on the Autistic Spectrum, Lesley is extremely passionate about Inclusive Dance. She likes to use her knowledge and understanding of this to be an advocate for people whose voices are not always heard. She enjoys the freedom dance creates by allowing her to communicate through this universal language. She also likes to incorporate British Sign language into her movement style. She is interested in the kinaesthetic benefits dance brings, particularly for children and those with additional needs. She likes to use movement to teach life skills, such as spatial awareness and fine motor skills. She enjoys creating interactive work that can be easily adapted whilst exploring the relationship between movement and play and imagination.

She was part of The Work Room & Barrowland Ballet’s graduates programme 2020/21, and currently working as a Youth Arts Co-ordinator for Clifftop Projects. It is from this she has learnt about the importance of community arts and arts access. These values of togetherness, inclusion and young people driven is what she try to incorporate into her own practice.
