Lesley (they/them) is an Autistic Artist. One half of Just Us, a duo, who create work focused blending British Sign Language, stimming, and visual arts to ensure young audiences see their sensory needs and languages respected. Lesley has experience working with organisations such as Barrowland Ballet, Second Hand Dance, and Starcatcher’s. With experience working as a Youth Arts Co-ordinator with Clifftop Projects where they created Youth Voices, a platform that centres and celebrates young people’s views. They are also a board member of Imaginate and Birds of Paradise Theatre Company.
As an Autistic person, Lesley experiences the world from a unique perspective. Valuing non-verbal communication, advocating & creating spaces for those who interact with the world differently. Access is central to their practice. Their project ‘Where is the Line’ focuses on making arts spaces more accessible for those with invisible disabilities.
In their creative work, they prioritise four core values: Playfulness, Accessibility, Curiosity, and Joy. Passionate about exploring boundaries, recognising individual lived experiences, and reconnecting with our playful, animalistic roots. Collaboration is central to their approach, where participants are empowered to take the lead in their creative journey, with safety and connection at the forefront.
