I'm excited about finding new tangible ways to connect with young people despite working remotely and create a piece of art that connects us both offline and online.

—Marion Geoffray, Lead Artist

Lead Artist: Marion Geoffray

In this project, Marion explored the theme of “root” from the perspective of our own body. We are our own “root”, a growth expanding, carrying both our past and our future. Our body is also our own “route” - we’re constantly creating to go and explore uncharted territories. Inspired by topography and “plant intelligence”, Marion was interested in finding the map in each individual and connecting the invisible dots between them.

Throughout the project, Marion shared recorded videos with each class to get them thinking about ''roots and routes''. She used physicality to ask the young peole to expolore how their body connects them to space and place. Each young person received an art pack, designed by Marion, that contained chalk, string, face crayons and tape. These art packs were then used to help the young people explore how their bodies made marks in different spaces.

In the video below, you can see some of the different artistic ways that the young people explored ''roots and routes'' with Marion as part of their Immerse Artist in Residence project.
