Commissioned by Imaginate in partnership with Aberdeen Performing Arts and in association with Platform. Supported by the Scottish Government's Festivals Expo Fund.

So Far So Good is an adventurous new contemporary circus show for early years. Three performers use daring acrobatics to explore flying, falling, steep places, precipices and the sharp rocks you come across on the way up.

Created in the Cairngorms with the children who live in wild places, and drawing on their lived experience of false summits, dangerous scrambles, and hiking to the top, this is a show which celebrates the joy of dancing along the edge, scaling the heights and discovering the secret rest places and long views along the way.

A show for anyone who has ever asked “Are we there yet?” Because however high we get, are we ever really there?

So Far So Good will be touring Scotland as part of The Festival on Tour in late May - early June.

Access Information:

  • Set design: The performance is set on stage with audience on each side. The stage is flat and white with a curve at each end. There is a rock on stage. The audience sits on cushions, benches and chairs either side of the performance space.
  • Performers: 3 circus artists take the audience on a journey across the landscape of the show including climbing, falling, sliding, jumping, spinning using acrobatics and dance. They are dressed in silver costumes representative of elements and minerals.
  • Lights: The performance uses the theatre lights as well as light in the set. The light design follows the rhythm of a day although not in chronological order, we see lighting states from early morning sun to dusk and evening as well as the essence of the landscape including weather and volcanoes. There are shadows and shapes created by the lights throughout the show and the show finishes with a faded blackout.
  • Sound: The show has a mixture of recorded and live sounds including instruments and song on the theme of weather, landscape and includes sounds made by children and young people we’ve worked with.
  • Experience: The show is specifically designed 3–6-year-olds. The performance contains fog and haze effects.
